When we buy something we tend to wash,  polish , iron it and then enjoy deciding where to put it or what to wear it with. So with crystals and gem stones , we need to do the same as they pick up the vibration of the people who touch them or the psychic dust from the people who visit the shops in which they are they are displayed .How many antique and second hand  shops keep their goods on the pavement outside to soak up the healing sunshine ?

Crystals and Stones have been worn and used through the ages for decoration, inspiration, healing, emotional balance, love, money and protection. We have 7 main Chakras, energy centres, in the body which relate to the endocrine system and are the link between our energetic and physical selves. Different crystals relate to each Chakra.

You don’t have to be an expert to benefit from crystals. Trust your intuition and go for those you are drawn to.

Once you have made your choice you need to clean them physically and spiritually. Choose a day of the new or full moon as the atmosphere will be charged with energy. Place the crystals in a glass bowl, filled with mineral water and leave a few hours. Take them out and leave to dry on some white tissue paper. Take them, breathe on them and say a line of intention to make them yours. Place them in your left hand , pocket or at your left side to receive and the right to release or give to someone.

It’s good to do this cleaning ritual once a month. Tune in to the stones as you clean them.

Sounds a little like a film title … not quite so star-lit, but a debut of sorts. RUBIWARREN made a debut fair appearance at Desire in Winchester last weekend (November 19-20), and of course there had to be a show-piece to add a splash of glamor to the event. So, I set about creating a dramatic, statement necklace inspired by a pear shaped center stone of Rhodonite – which I took from a vintage piece I had picked up in an antique shop in Arundel. One of five stunning Rhodonite cabochons, the stone’s shape lent itself beautifully to a spider’s web-like cascade of faceted black Spinel. The delicate, soft pink stone needed something dark and dramatic to set it off and bring it back from the edge of reason. It also gives it an air of art deco – which imbued the drama of powder and pastel set off against black ebony and jet. I can imagine a 1920′s siren wearing this piece set against a simple silk column dress and feather head-dress. The stones – Rhodonite are two wonderfully contrasted stones. Rhodonite, a soft pink stone resonates with the heart, compassion, love and generosity but also helps one discover and develop hidden talents. Black Spinel in contrast is a stone for revitalizing and energizing the self on all levels – bringing inspiration, hope and victory. But what a powerful duo – bringing the desires of the heart together with vital energy and inspiration! Makes me want to put the necklace on right now and wear it all day – to Sainsbury’s and all!

Such a show stopper deserves an encore, so the remaining four vintage Rhodonite cabochons are destined for four other necklaces – and there will be one exclusive set of earrings too. All to follow on the site and perhaps at the next Desire show in Richmond, March 2012 – if they haven’t already been snapped up!

Crystals are the gifts of mother earth. As we move forward on our paths, the energy of the crystals can assist with our personal growth and development. Everything in the universe is vibration and we are drawn to crystals which resonate with our own vibration. This is why working with crystals is a very individual experience.

The most important thing to remember is that what you personally get from a crystal is far more important than what any book tells you about a particular stone. It is true that certain themes will recur with a crystal, but if you ‘get’ something different, it is likely that this is an aspect that you need even if there is no ‘literature’ to support your experience. Trust your intuition and you will find yourself on a wonderful journey with your crystal companions. 

Amethyst is one of the most popular for those starting to work with crystal energy.

Often called a ‘master healer’, amethyst is a member of the quartz family containing traces of iron. It has been used for jewellery and healing for thousands of years. The Greeks believed it would prevent intoxication and calm anger. Modern therapists make use of it on both the physical and emotional levels to counter addiction, balance the nervous system and assist with oxygenation of the blood. Very much in keeping with, and developing from, the earliest uses.

Energetically it resonates with the brow chakra so it can heighten concentration, quieten the mind in meditation and open the third-eye and crown chakras to facilitate the development of intuitive and psychic abilities. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given all of the above, many people find it extremely effective for dealing with tension headaches.

In the Chinese Five Elements, this is a crystal for supporting the lung and large intestine meridians, so gaseous exchange, water regulation in the body and emotions relating to grief, guilt, shame and ‘letting go’. Again, the calming aspect is an important feature of its healing application.
